Penguins are flightless birds with streamlined bodies and thick coats, making them perfectly suited for life on the ice. The emperor penguin grows to a height of up to 1.25 m and can weigh as much as 45 kg. They are excellent, fast swimmers. Emperor penguins can reach speeds of up to 30 km/h and dive down to 400 m.
